Souls Harbor Baptist Church
Doctrinal Statement

I. The Holy Scriptures

We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Old and New Testaments; that they are the sole authority for faith and life, infallible and God-breathed and inerrantly preserved in the Authorized Version of the King James Bible and this church is required to use only the Authorized Version of the King James Bible in all of its ministries and teachings. (Matthew 4:4; Romans 10:17; II Timothy 3:16; Psalm 12:6,7; Revelation 22:18,19)

II. The Godhead

We believe in one triune God: the Maker, preserver and ruler of all things, eternally existing in three persons - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, each with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence or being. (Matthew 28:19-20, John 1:1-3, Genesis 1:26)

III. The Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is eternally equal with God, that he lived a sinless life on earth, that he died on Calvary as a satisfactory sacrifice for sinners, that his body was buried in and arose from Joseph's tomb, that he ascended to heaven and was glorified as a man at God's right hand, that he sent the eternal Spirit on Pentecost to convict the world; to regenerate, indwell and empower believers and to build the church, that he is coming again for his own and then to set up his kingdom on earth. (Isaiah 7:14, II Corinthians 5:21, Matthew 1:18-25)

IV. The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment, that he is the supernatural agent in regeneration in whom all believers are baptized into the body of Christ, that he indwells and seals them unto the day of  redemption. (John 14:16-18, 16:7-8)

V. The Personality of Satan

We believe that Satan is a supernatural person, the author of sin and the cause of the fall, that he is the open and declared enemy of God and man, that he shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire. (Genesis 3:1-7, II Corinthians 4:4, Ephesians 2:2)

VI. Hell

We believe in a literal hell, the lake of fire and brimstone, which shall be the place of eternal punishment of Satan, fallen angels, demons and the unbelieving dead. (Luke 16:22-26, Revelation 20:12-15 & 21:18)

VII. Heaven

We believe in a literal place called heaven where God's immediate presence is manifested, where the angels dwell and where the redeemed shall ultimately dwell; from whence Christ descended and to which he ascended again, where he maketh intercession for the saints and from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. (John 14:1-37, Revelation 21)

VIII. The Eternal State

 A. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men; the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. (I Thessalonians 4:13-18,  Revelation 20:11-15)

B. We believe that the souls of the unbelievers remain after death in conscious misery until the second  resurrection  when with spirit, soul and body reunited they shall be cast into the lake of fire, not to be annihilated but to suffer everlasting punishment. (Revelation 20:14-15)

C. We believe that the souls of the redeemed are at death absent from the body and present with the Lord  where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection when spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord. (II Corinthians 5:6-8)

IX. Salvation

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ "...died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" that he ascended into heaven where as our great High Priest and  advocate he ever lives to make intercession for us and that all who believe on his name are justified on the grounds of his shed blood, thereby receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit and eternal life by the grace of God. We believe that the atonement of Christ is not limited, but that God wants all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth; that it is not his will that any should perish, but that all come to repentance. (I Corinthians 15:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, Romans 10:9-13, Acts 16:31, II Peter 3:9)

X. Man

We believe that God created man in his own image and in a state of innocence, that through man’s transgression "...sin entered into the world, and death by sin;" that consequently his posterity inherits a corrupt nature, being born in sin and under condemnation and as soon as they become capable of moral action become actual transgressors.  (Genesis 3:6-19, Romans 5:12, Psalms 51:5)

XI. Regeneration

We believe that regeneration is a divine and instantaneous work of the Holy Spirit whereby God imparts life to one dead in trespasses and sins. (John 3:1-7)

XII. Sanctification

We believe that believers "are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

(Hebrews 10:10)

 A. We believe that sanctification is a divine and progressive work of the Holy Spirit whereby God, upon the grounds of the finished work of Christ on the cross, his present intercessory ministry and his divine Word, sets the believer apart.  Sanctification is worked out through the believer by means of a submissive will, that which is well pleasing to God himself through Jesus Christ.  Sanctification is not a second work of grace for which the believer should seek. (Ephesians 5:18,  II Peter 3:18)

B. We believe that sanctification culminates in the redemption of the body.

XIII.  The Church

A. We believe in the one true church, the spiritual body  and   bride of the Lord Jesus Christ, composed of believers from   Pentecost to the Rapture, into which believers are baptized by the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22)

B. We believe that the local church is an organization composed of regenerated, baptized believers instituted for the purpose of fellowship, worship and service.  In matters of administration and policy it is self-governing. (Acts 2:41-47)

XIV.  Baptism

We believe that Christian baptism by immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is the Bible mode of baptism and testifies to the believers faith in and identification with the crucified, buried and risen Saviour. (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19-20, Romans 6:3-5, Acts 8:26-39)

 XV.  The Lord's Supper

We believe the Lord's Supper is an ordinance by which born-again believers remember and show forth the Lord's death until he comes.(I Corinthians 11:25-32)

XVI. The Second Advent of Christ

We believe in the blessed hope; the personal, imminent and pretribulational coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to rapture his church and his second coming after the tribulation to establish his millennial kingdom on earth. (I Thessalonians 4:13-18)

XVII. The Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers

A. We believe that all the redeemed are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever.(John 10:27-29, II Timothy 1:12)

B. We believe that this assurance does not give the believer the privilege of willfully practicing sin without loss of reward.(I Corinthians 3:13-15)
